Space and Place conference

5th Global Conference Space and Place: Exploring Critical Issues
September 3-5, 2014
Mansfield College, Oxford
Zoran Poposki, Hong Kong Atlas, video, 2014
Artist and researcher Zoran Poposki is presenting the creative research project Hong Kong Atlas at the 5th Global Conference on Space and Place: Exploring Critical Issues at Mansfield College, University of Oxford in the UK.

The study of space and place is an interdisciplinary field of academic research crossing over fields such as archaeology, architecture, geography, feminism, philosophy, politics and the creative and visual arts.  Questions of space and place are fundamental to our very existence, what Heidegger terms ‘being-in-the world.’ Constructions of space and place function to delimit the Self from the Other, whether within the urban sprawl of the modern metropolis in which gated communities are becoming all too prevalent or within the postcolonial endeavour of globalisation and continuing territorial fights over contested spaces in Europe, Asia, the Far East and Europe. The project aims to bring together people with an investment in the study of space and place, whether from an academic, practice-based or lay perspective, in order to form a community and network of people committed to cutting-edge and innovative inter- and multi-disciplinary research.

The project will explore a number of key core themes including:

1. New approaches to the study of space and place

2. The politics and philosophy of space and place
3. Representations of space and place across and within cognate disciplines
4. The geographical and architectural construction of space and place
5. Global and local perspectives on space and place
6. The relationship between time and spatiality
7. Gender, sexuality and race and lived experiences of space and place

The conference is part of the ‘Ethos’ series of research projects, which in turn belong to the Critical Issues programmes of ID.Net. It aims to bring together people from different areas and interests to share ideas and explore various discussions which are innovative and challenging.

ART STAYS EXPORT & PREVIEW (SLO / ITA / ENG)

ART STAYS, 12. Festival sodobne umetnosti predstavlja v Galeriji 3D v Italiji mednarodni video projekt TRANSLATION(S), kustosov Laurenca Wooda in Zorana Poposkega. Gre za premierno predstavitev video projekta v Italiji.

Presented for the first time in Italy by ART STAYS Festival of contemporary art, european appointment at its 12nd edition, hosted at 3D Gallery, the international video project Translation(s) is curated by Laurence Wood and Zoran Poposki.

Umetniki / Artisti / Artists : Arnold J. Kemp ( USA) , Tricia Sellmer ( Canada ) , Lucy Harrison (UK ) , Daniel Arnaldo Roman ( Puerto Rico ) , Zoran Poposki (Hong Kong / Macedonia ) , Laurence Wood ( Hong Kong / UK ) , Luis Lara Malvacias (USA / Venezuela ) , Damon Ayers & Tessie Word ( USA) , Victoria Hindley ( USA) , Eva Petrič ( Austria / Slovenia) .

Umetniki v tem projektu uporabljajo različne umetniške video prakse, s katerimi prevajajo vpliv življenja in dela v različnih mestih in kulturah.

The artists in this exhibition use a variety of visual approaches to translate the impact that living and working in different cultures has upon them. Simultaneously personal and universal, global and local, sometimes our contemporary lives can seem like journeys in an apparently chaotic universe, a territory which may be travelled forwards and backwards in time and space. In this changing terrain, our daily practices, and our sense of self, can rely on constant translation and mediation between identities and cultures. These works explore that ongoing process of negotiating complex cultural interplays.

Translation(s) je del pred-programa 12.
