<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Translation(s) I-III: Translating New Territories is a survey of the first five years of the international art project
Translations(s). Curated by Zoran Poposki and Laurence Wood, the exhibition at
Osage Gallery Hong Kong showcases a selection of more than 30 works of video
art, painting, and drawing by 13 artists investigating translation as a key strategy
of global negotiation and
interchange between agents from different cultures. In the contemporary
emerging network of new pathways between multiple formats of expression and
communication, our daily practices, as well as our sense of
self, rely on constant translation and mediation between identities and
cultures. The Translation(s) project explored that ongoing process of
negotiating complex cultural interplays.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Working under a curatorial concept encouraging
diverse explorations and interpretations of the theme, the artists featured in
the project explore perspectives of a world rapidly transforming into a global
translation space by the physical movement of people, and the consequent
mediation and negotiation to establish and understand new personal and
collective cultures.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The first edition of Translation(s) I was
released in 2013 and was screened at international art festivals in Hong Kong,
Slovenia, Denmark, Italy, and Canada. The second edition Translation(s) II: Translating the City was screened in 2015 in Hong
Kong and Slovenia. The third edition Translation(s)
III: Bodies in Transit was screened in 2017 in Slovenia and the UK.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The artists in T1 used a variety of visual
approaches to translate the impact that living and working in different
cultures has upon them. Simultaneously personal and universal, global and
local, sometimes our contemporary lives can seem like journeys in an apparently
chaotic universe, a territory which may be travelled forwards and backwards in
time and space. In this changing terrain, our daily practices, and our sense of
self, can rely on constant translation and mediation between identities and
cultures. The project explored that ongoing process of negotiating complex
cultural interplays.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">T2 (Translating
the City) explored urban space and place through the medium of video,
employing a variety of strategies and interdisciplinary approaches, from
mapping and public space performance, to the exploration of spatialized
identities, cultural memory, and cultural translation. The participating
artists reconsidered the city as a space of negotiation and interchange between
agents from different cultures, the scene of an ongoing process of translation.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">T3 (Bodies
in Transit) explored one of the most topical issues of contemporaneity: the
traversing of borders. Migration, immigration, and refugees, people and
cultures meeting, mixing, melding or clashing, forcing collectives and
individuals to come face to face with difference or similarity, and to consider
questions of our underlying common humanity.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Zoran Poposki (MFA, PhD) is a transdisciplinary
artist, researcher, and educator, exploring themes of (cultural) translation,
spatial epistemology and social practice. His work has been shown in numerous
exhibitions, screenings and festivals worldwide.

MO〔VE〕MENT- MEDIATING A MOMENT
IN TIME AND A MOVEMENT IN HISTORY The FESTIVAL 2017 questions, twists and
manipulates the meanings of MOMENT and MOVEMENT. While the FESTIVAL may create
seminal/ visual objects of curiosity, complexity and ideas for speculation, it
is not simply a moment of ‘art attack’. The second praxis of the FESTIVAL 2017 embraces
platforms/ methodologies of pedagogy for public mediation and it forges
co-extensive spaces and initiatives for such co-participants as artists,
educators, school-cum-public learners to develop self, interactive or
constructive learning. The FESTIVAL 2017 focuses on “MO(VE)MENT” and it
accredits our daily gesture, attitude, act of identity, self/ co-existence,
difference, intervention, detachment, escapism, nomadism. Every moment or
movement in our daily life, or resistance to localization, globalization, or
its hybrid mix (glocalism) is celebrated. The FESTIVAL makes every
participatory moment count and makes every momentary memory further-lingering.
Together the artists explore the extension of art form and kinaesthetic
awareness, investigating the intelligence of visual and body form, and their
intervention in space. The image/ imagined/ imaginary of each project
restructures the relationship between the MOMENT of intervention and MOVEMENT
bearing enduring thought-practice. Every frozen, visualized or performative
moment embraces its intrinsic and intuitive value and the FESTIVAL brings this
value further to public understanding or historical impact. “MO〔VE〕MENT” not only presents
images or attitudes existing in “the current moment of space-time”, it supports
projects with thought-discussion in “the (art, culture, urban, …) movement of
the past or future” as well. The dialogical platform is not simply intending to
renew a page in the ontology of history or globalism, nor spearheading
geo-political culture towards a movement encompassing collateral event at the
expense of discourse; rather, it emerges from a speculation with OUR TIME and a
dialogue with history IN THE EVERYDAY.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">LUGARES DE ESCAPE
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">At the end of the 20th century, the conclusion of the Cold War led to a desired economic and political integration. Globally it was widely believed that nations had no choice but to adopt the new model of democratic capitalism, almost every government demonstrated optimism towards a new era of global convergence. In reality the world is far more connected than in the 21st century. Many Human Rights have gone from the unthinkable to realisation. Moments of triumph have led to a belief that democratic capitalism could create a more cultured and pro-liberal world, a new way of idealistic living for the future; a liberal utopia.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">But now we ask: has liberal capitalist democracy triumphed? Has the economic and ideological determinism of the post-Cold War time guaranteed democracy? As global nations we are always in flux; our ancestors endured two world wars in the 20th century where many came together to combat a foe. Indeed, we are now in the midst of a strange time, with many people displaced and dispossessed, a disturbing similarity emerges to what happened in those two great wars of the 20th century.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Refugees desperately search for new homes beyond bombing zones, while other countries ban the wearing of religious clothing. The UK government continues to participate in imperialistic action in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and pushes its global agenda onto nations that are not interested or have very different values, which are as equal in their worth.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Both Sides Now 3: Final Frontiers endeavours to explore these divides, these boundaries and spaces between us, which exist as cultural legacies and hand-me-downs, like broken family heirlooms, with attached blame. Through this collection of films we aim to investigate personal experiences, global themes and fractures that need healing through cultural sharing and exchange. Both Sides Now is a tactical programme, which uses film and video to explore culture and society between different nations, the UK, China and Hong Kong, and beyond.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The UK programme contains work by artists who live in the UK, but who were not necessarily born there; artists who have experiences of the bordered UK, and have an understanding of its cultural frontiers. The artists in the programme who were born in the UK explore global cultures and are passionate about cultural communication. The Hong Kong programme includes work by diasporic Chinese and expatriates in Hong Kong and China, it aims to make visible fragments of experience and disrupt time, space and continuity. Final Frontiers attempts, through artists’ film and video, to redefine and close the spaces between us.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The Art Stays Festival of Contemporary Art is returning for its fourteenth edition with a rich programme and many new features.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Art Stays is one of the most prominent presentations of contemporary art, especially of fine arts in Slovenia and Central Europe. Ever since 2003 it brings the latest in art, be it the well-know artists with their work hanging in museums, collections and guests at biennales, or those most promising talents - they all are invited to Ptuj. More then 600 artists have participated at the festival during the years.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Squares and buildings of the oldest city in Slovenia will offer exhibitions, performances, workshops, film screenings and other events from the most contemporary art production. More then 100 artists will be presented on the festival, as well as different types of contemporary art: photography, painting, sculpture, video, installations, performance and intermedia projects. The 14th edition of the festival has the title POLITIC(S), the focus for this year is „political art“.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The programme was prepared and curated by Jernej Forbici and Marika Vicari in collaboration with international galleries, museums, and a team of international curators with the special participation of the independent Chilean art curator Antonio Arevalo, Anna Balvanyos from the Ludwig Museum of Budapest, the Slovenian art curator Peter Tomaž Dobrila, and Manuel Frara from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">Title POLITIC(S) was born from a reflection about the relations between politics, dialogue and language, especially in the field of arts that we discussed and observed in the last 13 years of ART STAYS. We as artists, curators, people that work with culture in general, have the responsability to represent and discuss about the POLITIC(S) in the form of choices, languages, wonderings, human rights, power, political and social system, war, terrorism, new identity, migracy, activism, propaganda, laboratories and communications.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 85%;">The programme will feature a big exhibition, dedicated to POLITIC(S), installed in three floors of a recently restored Dominican Monastery in Ptuj. It will present some of the greatest and interesting names of contemporary art scene and some young new proposals as well:
